MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike told Daily Sun in Owerri, the Imo State capital yesterday that intelligence reports from his men in the two states confirmed that Ndigbo had remained vulnerable to bombings of churches and other public places by the sect.
He, therefore, expressed anger that in the face of rising killings in the North, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) still posted Igbo intending corps members to the North.
Uwazuruike disclosed that the cries of Igbo graduates on their posting to the North had reached him, warning that NYSC as a matter of urgency should stop posting Igbo graduates to the North.
He said a situation where the NYSC refuses and posts Igbo graduates to the North and they are killed would force MASSOB to go for reprisal on northerners posted to the East.
The MASSOB leader, therefore, advised NYSC to save the country from the "ugly situation that might arise from its inconsiderate attitude of posting Igbo graduates to the now volatile North."
He said that MASSOB had encouraged the Igbo graduates already posted to the North to reject their posting, saying that the Igbo nation could not afford to lose more of its people, particularly the youths.
"We are advising our people in the North to return home, the other time we sent buses to the North to ferry them from the troubled zones and since that time thousands have returned on their own.
"So, it makes nonsense of everything for NYSC to now post Igbo graduates to the North, do they want our youths to be slaughtered? Tell me, who will see fire and still put his hand into it. I think that it is either that NYSC is insensitive to the plight of Ndigbo or there are its officials who are carrying out a script to exterminate Igbo youths," Uwazuruike said.
He also frowned at a situation where security operatives in the North play down the figure of casualties in the troubled zones, insisting that more Igbo had actually been killed than the official figures dished out.
